What do you look at when you are going through life’s trials? What do you look to? What do you watch? Where you fix your eyes makes all the difference in the world. What are you looking at? How is that working for you? Have you found the answers, the peace, the hope that you are searching for?
In the Bible, Judah found themselves in a bit of a pickle as the Moabites and the Ammonites came out to battle against King Jehoshapat (see 2 Chronicles 20). They came to this great realization that staring at the situation wasn’t changing anything; nor did staring at each other. They needed God to intervene. They stopped, gathered, and looked up to the LORD. v12 “O our God, will You not judge them? For we have no power against this great multitude that is coming against us; nor do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon You.” The Bible tells us that God answered them when they stood still and looked up; their eyes were upon Him and Him alone. In v15 the LORD tells them “Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of the great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s” v17 “You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you, O Judah and Jerusalem!’ Do not fear or be dismayed; tomorrow go out against them, for the LORD is with you.”
V23 tells us that they won the victory; in fact they spent 3 days collecting the spoils; all because they had their eyes upon the LORD.
So, what are you looking at? How is that working for you? Have you found the answers, the peace, the hope that you are searching for? Have you tried looking to God but you feel as though He hasn’t come through?
Perhaps you can relate to the Prophet Isaiah who wrote: “Like a crane or a swallow, so I chattered; I mourned like a dove; My eyes fail from looking upward. O LORD, I am oppressed; Undertake for me!” Isaiah 38:14 As you find yourself facing insurmountable odds and obstacles my advice to you is STOP! Look up to the LORD and watch what He will do! Psalm 34:15 tells us “The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and His ears are open to their cry.” Psalm 25:15 tells us that when we keep our eyes on the LORD we get rescued: “My eyes are ever toward the LORD, For He shall pluck my feet out of the net.” Psalm 141:8 "But my eyes are upon You, O GOD the Lord; In You I take refuge; Do not leave my soul destitute."
Learn to trust God; TAKE A RISK TODAY! Don’t look to anyone else but the LORD. He may use people or things to give you the victory, but don’t look to anything or anyone else.
Psalm 121:1-2 1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. Psalm 123:1-2 1 Unto You I lift up my eyes, O You who dwell in the heavens. 2 Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, As the eyes of a maid to the hand of her mistress, So our eyes look to the LORD our God, Until He has mercy on us.
