"JUST A MINUTE..."

People say it all the time…

You heard it said to you when you asked someone something.

Admit it; you’ve even said it yourself to someone else in an attempt to pacify the request and continue to do whatever it is that is (seemingly) more important at the time.

“Just A Minute”

Then, one-minute turns to five which turns to ten and so forth…

And our requests (seemingly) fall on deaf ears

And we learn to be cynical and not believe each other’s words. We assume that they won’t really follow through on what they say they will do.

And, worst of, we make the assumption that this is how God answers us.

After all, the Bible says; “But, beloved, do not forget this one thing, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”

We reason that God takes HIS time (not ours) to get back to us.

But I want to assure you that just because people treat each other like that, God doesn’t. In fact, it might surprise you that He answers more quickly that we might imagine.

In Matthew 6:8, Jesus tells us that God the Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him.

King David said in Psalm 139:4 “You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.”

Isaiah prophesied (spoke for the LORD); “I will answer them before they even call to me. While they are still talking about their needs, I will go ahead and answer their prayers!”
Wow; I would say that is faster that our lame answer; ““Just A Minute”

My favorite Bible passage that shows just how quickly God answers comes from the Book of Daniel chapter ten. I like it because it also gives insight as to why (sometimes) we can’t see the answer from God.

Daniel needed some direction from the Lord and set aside some time to pray, and he saw a vision. The passage tells us that he had been in mourning for three whole weeks, during which time he had eaten no rich food, nor had he drunk wine, nor had he used any fragrant lotions until those three weeks had passed.

In the vision, Daniel is told some things that we can take away and apply to our lives as we ponder whether or not the Lord answers us quickly.

First of all, God sends someone to talk to Daniel to let him know that God has heard his request.

Secondly, this angel tells Daniel that God sent him to tell Daniel God’s answer, but the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood the angel for twenty-one days. In other words, Daniel couldn’t get the answer because of the opposition that was stopping the answer from coming through.

Thirdly, the angel tells Daniel that the Lord dispatched Michael to fight the resistance and made a way for the angel to break through the enemy’s lines and get the answer to Daniel.

Fourthly, (and this is my favorite insight) the angel tells Daniel that from the first day he set his heart to seek the Lord, God dispatched the answer.

One version says, “the moment you decided to humble yourself to receive understanding, your prayer was heard”. I like that!

God is saying; “I didn’t wait until you fasted and prayed twenty-one days to answer you. I didn’t even wait until you had spent a whole day in prayer. I sent the answer when you said to yourself, “I’ve got to seek the Lord.”

The Lord told one of His angels to go and tell Daniel that his prayer was answered the moment Daniel began to pray; but an evil angel met God’s angel and wrestled with him, blocking him from getting to Daniel.

God wasn’t saying; “Just a minute…”

No, there was a conflict in the heavens taking place even though Daniel couldn’t see it. Satan hindered God’s answer to Daniel for three full weeks.

The Bible tells us that "we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places." (Ephesians 6:12).

Today, call out to God, knowing that He hears your cry even before you ask Him. He is a loving Father who longs to care for you. He won’t forsake you. He won’t tell you; “Just a minute”.

Adopted or Orphan?

The following is from a message that I heard in 2008 by Pastor Andrew Gross entitled; “From an Orphan Spirit to the Spirit of Adoption”

Do you ever feel . . .
  • A gnawing sense of insecurity about relationships?
  • It is only a matter of time before you are rejected?
  • A need to protect yourself when getting closer?
  • A basic instinct to flee from relationships?
  • The need to make “exit plans”?
  • The need to day-dream about “Plan B”?
  • The need to fight because others don’t have your best interest in mind?
  • The need to preemptively reject others?
  • An automatic suspicion of those in power?
  • The need to respond out of all proportion to unintentional snubs?
  • That disagreements, corrections, or constructive criticisms from others are really masks for disrespect, dismissal, or rejection?
This belief or feeling is an ‘Orphan Spirit’; a sneaking suspicion that you are rejected, you will be rejected, and you deserve to be rejected.

Am I talking to the right audience?

Imagine a community in which people believe . . .
  • I don’t belong here
  • I’m not wanted here
  • My contribution is under-appreciated here
  • People wouldn’t miss me if I disappeared today
  • I don’t feel valued here
  • I don’t feel safe in relationships here
  • I can’t really be myself here
  • If others saw the real me, they would reject me
  • People don’t accept me

But what is the “Spirit of Adoption?”

It is a certainty that you are accepted
  • I belong
  • I am included
  • I am known
  • I am desired
  • I am wanted
  • I am cherished
  • I am treasured

For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” (Romans 8:15)

But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” Therefore, you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.” (Galatians 4:4-7)

having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will” (Ephesians 1:5)

With the Spirit of Adoption comes the certainty of
  • God’s goodness as your Daddy
  • Your security as His child
  • A wide, broad mindset of confidence

We need to make this shift, but HOW?

The Problem:  You don’t believe that God is good

The Solution: Fix your eyes on the character of God
Check the adoption papers
Rivet your thoughts and your imagination onto the Truth

“The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.” (Exodus 34:6-7)

How much more does your heavenly Father know how to give good gifts.  (See Matthew 7:11-12)

Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”  (Luke 12:32)

“For men indeed swear by the greater, and an oath for confirmation is for them an end of all dispute.  Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. “It Would Help if You Turn the Key the Right Way!”

An ice storm came through this past week and left our two vehicles encased in what appeared to be solid lead crystal. Which, although it looked beautiful, would stop Cathy and I from being able to use the vehicles to drive to work.

Since I was aware that the storm was coming, I arose early to allow enough time (and elbow grease) to remove the results of freezing rain. When I went outside, I discovered that one to two inches of snow had fallen on top of the vehicles already encased in ice.

It took me about 30 minutes to remove all the snow and scrape off everything.

My next task was to open the doors so that I could gain entrance to be able to start the vehicles and warm them up prior to departure.

Our car opened immediately when I used the remote control to open the door locks. I was happy and proceeded on to our pickup truck.

The key unlocked the doors immediately on the first attempt; or at least I thought that they had opened…because when I went to lift the door handle I had no success in opening the truck door.

‘No big deal’, I thought, I would simply pound on each of the doors and coax it them open; which I did and then tried the door handles again…with no success.

‘No big deal’, I thought, I would simply pound once again on the door and coax it to open; which I did and then tried the door handles again…again with no success.

‘No big deal’, I thought, I would simply go into my shop, get a rubber mallet and use it to pound on the door and coax it to open; which I did and then tried the door handles again…with no success.

‘No big deal’, I thought, I would simply go into my shop, get a small flat pry bar and use it to gently pry on the door and coax it to open; which I did (along with using the rubber mallet) and then tried the door handles again…with no success.

‘No big deal’, I thought, I would simply continue to gently pry on the door and coax it to open; which I did (along with using the rubber mallet) and then tried the door handles again…with no success.

Each time I would alternate between the driver side and the passenger side repeating the attempts to get inside.

As I was using the pry bar I noticed through the passenger window that the lock button was down, not up; indicating that this door was locked.

I took my key, inserted it into the lockset, turned it, and the button popped up. I immediately lifted the door handle, and the door opened!

I quickly went to the driver’s side and did the same procedure and that door opened as well!

As I pondered what had just taken place I concluded that, although we normally lock our vehicles, they were instead NOT LOCKED when I first went to get inside.

My attempts were stopped not because they were frozen, but because I had LOCKED the doors rather than unlocking them as I had assumed.

And it would help to turn the key the right way!

Those who read my blog know that somehow through this mistake I will still draw a spiritual truth to post for the readers’ consideration. So here I go…

Salvation is a free gift for anyone who will call upon the Name of the LORD. BUT you can’t get in without turning the key the right way.

No, it is not a formula of using the antiquated words or an old form of English.

No, you don’t have to wonder whether your hands should be folded with fingers up or whether they should be interlocked making sure that your hands are in some carefully formatted position.

No, you don’t have to be at special location or be in a special position to receive the gift of salvation from Jesus.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6 NKJV).

He is the ONLY way to come to salvation. He alone paid the price with His death, burial, and resurrection. In other words; it does help to turn the key the right way!

We humans will always try to formulate and script our own methods to into heaven; as though it was up to us to decide how things are to be done. Even if we can formulate the perfect plan (have the right key), it still helps if you turn the key the right way!

The Bible says; “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs 14:12 NKJV) and “There’s a way that looks harmless enough; look again—it leads straight to hell.” (Proverbs 16:25 MSG)

All our own efforts will always leave us banging on a door that will not open even though we have a key in our hands.

No, the door will only open when it is the same door at which Jesus stands knocking. Then and only then will we be able to enter in.

Jesus said; “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:20)

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14 NKJV)

Complete In Him

IT IS AMAZING THE IMPACT OTHERS HAVE ON OUR LIVES. Even from a very early age, most of us discover that that what we do determines our value.

As soon as we are born, we are compared with other babies as to our size and weight; where we fit on some scale; what ‘percentile” we are in compared to other babies.

AS CHILDREN our grades, skills, artworks are compared with every kid around us to see if we are good enough. What is our grade? What color was the ribbon we received? Did we make first line or were we the last one to get picked?

AS ADULTS, we would like to think that it diminishes; but in fact this is intensified all the more. The demand to perform and prove our worth only increases. Our performance, victories, accomplishments, and steps up the ladder of success determine our place in society.

Sadly, for some this striving for the pecking order becomes a journey of trying to do enough good things to finally feel valuable.

We can spend a lifetime trying to prove our worth by answering questions such as: What car do we drive? Where do we live? What do we do for work? What does our house look like? How much money do we make? How much do we weigh? How young do we look?

The answers to these questions define how others see us and how we see ourselves. Someone once said that to determine our net worth is pretty simple.

Take your emotional calculator: Add up all the diplomas, plus all the trophies, plus all the certificates, plus all of your possessions, plus all you have done for life. And you will discover the painful fact that they never add up to a deep sense of self-worth. NEVER!

We are driven, pulled by inner urges; yet never satisfied. We get the ‘prize’ yet we are no happier than we were before. This is true for those who know Christ as well as those who don’t.

And while we are chasing this world’s system for determining who we are; a still small voice is crying out for us to come to Him to find our self-worth. A voice that cries out: “Come to Me all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke on you and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and you shall find rest to your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30)

“… If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink.” (John 7:37)

“…I have come so that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly”. (John 10:10b)

The Good News is that our self-worth is not based upon an ACT score, or credit rating, or how smart we are, or where we live or what car we drive.

Never has been; never will be.

But I believe that Father God longs for each one of us to see us as we really are; to see us through His eyes, not ours or anyone around us. God’s view is so much different than our view:
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isa 55:9)

“You are complete in Him, who is the Head of all principality and power…” (Col 2:10)

When we get a glimpse of ourselves through His vision, we discover His Fatherly love overflows with unspeakable grace. When we see through His eyes, our lives will overflow with peace and joy!

The Problem: Most Christians have never fully gotten hold of the fact that Christ dwells in them and that they are in Him. Most Christians don’t understand what that means or how the life of Jesus can actually be lived in them.

Jesus has already done everything He is going to do for us!

PEOPLE, I AM HERE TODAY TO TELL YOU “YOU ARE COMPLETE IN HIM!”

The basis of our faith is Jesus: who He is and what He has done. And as we understand that, we need to understand: who we are and what we have and what we can do because of Him.

Let me repeat that: When we get down to the nitty-gritty, it doesn’t matter what denominational church you attend or what your doctrine entails.

THE BASIC FOUNDATION OF CHRISTIANITY IS WRAPPED UP IN THAT TRUTH: WHO JESUS IS AND WHAT HE HAS DONE.

If you are a born-again Believer, then you will agree that truth, regardless of whether you are a Baptist, a Lutheran, a Catholic, a Methodist, or whatever your church affiliation may be. That is the foundation of our faith as Christians.

If you can understand that you are complete in Him, you can live the abundant life that God has prepared for you and wants you to have.

God is a good God. He is a heavenly Father who wants to give good gifts to His children. When Jesus was on this earth He was the representative of the Father. Jesus had all of the fullness of the Godhead dwelling in Him. When Jesus left the earth, He sent the Holy Spirit to represent the Father and the Son.

The Apostle Paul wrote in Colossians 2:10 And you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power.”

We as Believers are complete in Him. Jesus is the head of everything, but we are complete in Him.

I want you to understand what the word ‘complete’ means. Completeness has to do with being made full.

Basically, you have the representative of the representative dwelling in you. And because of that, you can cease from your striving for self-worth! You are being perfected. All provision for your completion is there! If Christ is in me, then I have hope that I am complete in Him!

The Apostle Paul wrote in Colossians 1:27: For to them God would make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the nations, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory..."

In other words, although it is a mystery it is still true that Christ in me is the hope of glory. Jesus Christ in me is what makes all of the difference. We are complete.

My friends, we settle for so much less than who we are in Christ! We allow what others have measured us to be to determine who we are in Christ. We are His child whom He deeply loves! And nothing can ever separate us from His love!

The Apostle Paul wrote in 2Co 5:21 tells us that we are righteous! For He has made Him who knew no sin, to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

Did you catch that? God made Jesus to be sin for us, did He not? If that is true than the other part is true as well: We become the righteousness of God in Him!

THIS SHOULD RADICALLY AFFECT EVERY AREA OF OUR LIVES: At work, at home, in our marriages, and in all of our relationships. Because we are complete in Him:

I am in Christ, the Hope of Glory
I am a child of God
I am forgiven
I am a new creature
I am a temple of the Holy Spirit
I am redeemed
I am blessed
I am a saint
I am the head and not the tail
I am Holy
I am the elect, I am chosen
I am established
I am made near by the Blood of Christ
I am victorious
I am set free
I am strong in the Lord
I am dead to sin
I am more than a conqueror
I am a joint heir with Christ
I am sealed with the Holy Spirit
I am in Christ by His doing
I am accepted in the Beloved
I am complete in Him
I am made alive with Christ
I am free from condemnation
I am reconciled to God
I am conformed to His image

This is the abundant life to which Jesus gave His life for!

SO HOW DO WE RESPOND?
First of all: Have you come to faith in God through His Son Jesus Christ? You can today, right now. Don’t wait. His arms are open to receive you.

Secondly: He knows how hurt wrong thinking has left you; He wants to heal you. But, then He wants you to pick up your mat and go home (leave your old identity and pick up what He says about you) Stop performing and rest in His approval.

Thirdly; this abundant life comes as we spend time with Him. Scripture says be filled with the Holy Spirit, which is an ongoing verb that means “stay filled”

Finally: Go take this Good News into the world in which you find yourself:

That they can stop striving

That they don’t have to work at measuring up to other’s standards

That they too can be complete in Him!

In Jesus Name, Amen.
